KL INTERNATIONAL NEW YEAR RUN 2017

1 January 2017
The 2nd year I ran on the first day of the year in my on-going journey to be healthy and fit and to stay there.
It has been so unfortunate because for two consecutive years I was not well enough to run at my best.Last year I was struck by a bad cough for a week before the run and this year a fever struck me just few days before today.

We walked together to Dataran Merdeka along Jalan TAR  from the hotel from 6.15 a.m.

My son Zaim, 18 yrs old

My Daughter Sofiyya, 17 yrs old

My little hero 7 yrs old Zakwan

Youngest daughter Fareesya, 12 yrs old.

Our first photo at a  running event where all of us are the runners.

Just enough to recover to start and finish both runs but running passing the roads and iconic buildings in KL is always interesting and enjoyable.

However there are some positive stuff for 2017...
1. Running with the whole family.
2. Non stop run this year and mostly walking in 2016 when I had a cramped just when I reached Jln Tun Razak.
3. I am at 68+kg now and was at about 70+kg on 1 Jan 2016.(88kg in May 2015)
4. Have more running friends this year and made more new friends too.
5. Last year my run was to prepare for my first HM run by August of the same year and this year I am on the build-up towards my first FM run on 15 Jan.

It's quite funny that for two consecutive years I forgot to start the running apps on my smartphone. This time I realised it when I passed the first water station. Luckily this year timing chip is provided with the bib for 10km runners.Although my time won't be anything near to my best but good to know how long I made it this time because I had no idea how bad was my time last year.

Nothing much to comment about my run itself. It was just a relax and easy run at constant pace which I guess between 6-7.

Managed to be at the front row at the flag off.Joined by Adzyan Hamid and my new friends Mus Takim and Mohd Azhar. We had a nice chat before the FO.

Tried to put up some speed after the FO but after making the turn from Pertama Complex towards Jln Dang Wangi, my legs said no and with the lacking of fitness, I agreed with them and started to be more relax on my run.

Throughout few kilometres after that, my brain keep giving me messages as the reminder to just relax. Then I settled down once I reached Jln Ampang towards KL when I ran together while having a short chat until we passed Petronas Twin Towers.

At the junction in front of Renaissance Hotel, 10 runners joined by more crowd of 5km runners at Jln Sultan Ismail towards Maju Junction. However, there was enough space on the right side of the road for 10km runners to continue running without having difficulty to pass more and more crowd towards the FL from that point.

Then I continued to run and bumped into Adzyan again when I reached Jln TAR.He also just recovered from a fever. Then we continued running to the FL at Dataran Merdeka.
I stayed to run at the same relax and easy pace until the reached the FL.

Once I passed the FL, I did not go straight away to collect my medal but I walked back against the crowd to look for my wife and kids who were still on the way to find the 5km family run. I guess by that time, my eldest son Zaim Nur who also joined the 10km run like I did should have been on his way to finish.

With the runner who introduced me to running. My good friend Nazir.

Managed to see them at Jln TAR and in front of Gulati's Store. Then I ran and walked together with my youngest daughter and son.My wife Wahyu Akmal Hussein continued her run with her friends and my eldest daughter Nur Aini Sofiyya Zaini.
As always, my two youngest children were so excited and happy receiving their medal once we reached the FL together.I received mine from my good running friend Fyrus Azim who as on duty as a volunteer at the FL today.
Then came the best part at any event which taking photos while making new friends.Met Apix Wallrock and Evy @ Sofia Nori while I was busy taking photos with my family.Lama dah si Evy ni pi bertapa...he he he.Glad to meet in person some of my FB running friends too.Firstly I bumped into bro Al Rumie , Muhd Hir Johari and later met bro Saifudeen Shah with his family.
Congratulation to my senior from UKM bro Mohamad Shahrim Ibrahim who finished first 10km run today.Keep it up bang! GGMU! He he he...
With Apix and Evy Sofia

With Bro Shahrim, my super senior in UKM who finished his first ever 10km run.

Also met my sister Rosnita Abdul Wahab who ran with her children and her friends.
Then me and my family rushed back to the hotel to clean up and check out because my eldest daugther has to be back at the hostel at Rembau by 2pm for the registration.

Overall...it was another good start of the year for me and my family.
The most surprising thing to me was when I checked the result! Actually I finished the run within less than one hour although I did not feel I ran that fast throughout the run.
Zaim also finished the run within a quite good time for a beginner. It's totally up to him how he want to improve further. To me, as long as he can stay healthy and fit, I would be happy enough with that.

I feel like I just ran the KLNY 2016 recently but the fact is...it was a year ago.

Congratulation to all who finish the run today.Hope to see you again next year at KLINY Run 2018...one year from now!
